How To Prepare for an Interview
In class, on January 24, I learned about important tips and strategies to use while planning and carrying out an interview. I learned how to choose the best people to interview and to come up with open-ended questions that encourage interviewees to contemplate their answers and truly engage themselves in the conversation. Something made very clear to me was the importance of asking the interviewee how their name is spelt and why it is necessary to record the interviews in their entirety. On that same day, I did a practice interview with a classmate, Elena, using my previous strategies to record a good interview and identify two quotes and three detailed facts. Then on January 30, I prepared questions to use in my interviews for my magazine article. I planned a time with the interviewee and then, on February 9, recorded the interview, making sure to get them to introduce themselves and keep them involved.
