How to Write Captions and Why they are Important
In class I learned a lot about why captions are important and how to write them. I learned:
- Captions are very important because they are the most read copy in publications.
- Captions answer the questions who, what, when, where, why, and how, adding context to it's corresponding picture.
- Basic captions, used when space is limited, are only one sentence and identify any people, describe the action taking place, and are fully in present tense.
- Expanded captions are in past tense and add on to basic captions, adding a quote and one or two more sentences that describe the picture in more detail.
After this I did a few captions practices until February 1, picking a random picture online and writing both basic and expanded captions for it.
