Why are Headlines Important?
During class I learned about the importance of headlines and some elements in them.
- Trigger words like what, why, how, and when are often used in headlines in order to persuade the readers.
- Headlines consist of a teaser and a teller. The teaser interests the reader and the teller provides more detail about the article, using a subject and verb.
- Headlines grab the reader's attention, identify content, and describe a few specific things about the event.
- Word play like alliteration, antonyms, synonyms, homonyms, onomatopoeia, rhymes, puns, oxymorons, interjections, and allusions all improve headlines.
On February 3, I practiced making headlines using a picture from online. I made sure to use some word play and include both a teaser and teller.
